Meet The Team
ABOUT THE OWNERS OF THE PICKUPWALL – We are Tennis Pros and engineers who love to play tennis. It was by complete chance as one partner in Florida was working on a ball return design that another in Canada was developing a similar product. They were told by a mutual friend about each other and it turns out they had known each other for 40 years but unaware of the other’s work. It was destiny that The PickupWall team combined forces. Since 2013, The PickupWall has satisfied customers with continuous ball machine play and in 2018, the unit underwent a major design improvement with the release of the quiet lifter mechanism. This has opened the indoor court market for the first time.
Mike Puc, USPTA, National Sales Manager, West Palm Beach, Florida. Mike is a “lifer” Tennis Pro with 40 years in the business. The winner of 15 National Tennis titles and an ATP ranking, Mike has been the Director of Tennis & Fitness at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach for 21 years. Mike sees for himself every day the enjoyment and convenience members experience by playing more on the ball machine and picking up less and is motivated to inform Pros of the benefits of this great tennis tool.
Derek Thomas, CTA, USPTA, Canadian and International Sales, London, Ontario, Canada. Born in Brisbane, Australia, Derek began his tennis teaching career at the famed John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in Texas and then found his way to Canada. A legendary Tennis Pro in Ontario, Derek introduced many innovative events to the London tennis scene while running his own tennis retail store. The Tennis Director at the London Hunt Club for 22 years, Derek retired from the courts in 2017 to partner a mortgage investment company and spend more time with PickupWall sales.
Radek Rybicki, Engineer, London, Ontario Canada. An Engineering graduate of the prestigious University of Western Ontario, Radek has had an entrepreneurial journey to managerial roles in manufacturing, analytics and strategy. The “brains” behind The PickupWall, Radek created the niche in the tennis market The PickupWall provides from conceptual drawing to visionary reality.
Chuck Weiss, Fabricator & Technical Service Manager, Lake Worth, Florida. With a lifetime in the fabrication industry creating solutions for problems, Chuck joined the Johnson & Johnson Company in 1984 as a Production Mechanic and then furthered his career to Chief Maintenance Supervisor working on highly specialized machinery with tolerances of 0.00010. This accuracy, attention to detail and safety has made Chuck a valuable contributor to The PickupWall including its transformation to quiet lifter technology.
Van Stokes, Engineer, Delray Beach Florida. A former Aerospace Engineer for Nasa working on the Saturn/Apollo program and consultant to NATO on the F-111 and F – 16 fighter planes, Van reminds us, The PickupWall is great, but it’s not rocket science. It is nice however to have a man with a plethora of engineering and building information to contribute to efficient designs with motors, bearings and pulleys and indoor installation.
