The PickupWall is customized for both indoor and outdoor courts and the rugged Starboard lifter shell has been tested under the harshest conditions including rain and heat. Long-lasting durability and efficient design mean incredible value for you!
Once your members see they can spend more time hitting they are eager to rent the machine. It is not unusual to see ball machine use triple or quadruple once The PickupWall is installed.
Each component of The PickupWall has been chosen for its function, durability and attractiveness. These components have been aligned in the system for maximum performance and years of trouble free use.
Feeding from the net to work on technique is great, as are live ball strategy clinics, but when was the last time you as a Pro stood behind your student to instruct? The benefit of the close teaching technique for footwork, technique and recovery and timing is another tool in your instruction bag that students will appreciate.
Your time is valuable so you don’t want to spend it picking up balls when you could be hitting. A ball machine with 200 balls feeding every 4 seconds takes about 13 minutes to hit. How fast can you pick up 200 balls? If you hustle it may be 10 minutes. Your time would be up pretty quick in a ½ hour ball machine session before the next user came on the court. An hour ball machine use with a top load of 300 balls would take 20 minutes to hit and 15 minutes to retrieve. You may get to hit 200 balls in 13 minutes in the second session with 10 minutes of retrieval. In an hour you have hit 500 balls in 33 minutes and retrieved for 25 minutes. That is not very efficient. With The PickupWall, play is continuous for 50 minutes hitting 750 balls with 10 minutes spent at the end of the hour to retrieve balls from the tennis net or stray balls from the ball machine side of the net. Even then, you may hit or push balls into the front track for pickup. No more tubes or baskets!
If you wanted a real fitness and cardio work out, (and you could last) then set the ball machine at a 2 balls per second feed rate. You would hit a bin of 300 balls in 10 minutes but still have the same retrieval rate of 15 minutes. In 50 minutes you would have spent 20 minutes hitting 600 balls and retrieved for 30 minutes. With The PickupWall 40 minutes of continuous hitting every two seconds would yield 1200 balls hit with the same 10 minute retrieval or twice as many balls hit!

RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Many clubs offer ball machine use complimentary either as a member perk or as an amenity in marketing to entice new members. For facilities who charge for ball machine use, the benefits of continuous play can be a huge selling point to customers. Why do people not use the ball machine? It’s because they have to pick up the balls. Once members see they can spend more time hitting they are eager to rent the machine. It is not unusual to see ball machine use triple or quadruple once The PickupWall is installed. If you charge $10/hour and have two customers a day you generate $20/day or $7300/year. With The PickupWall you may rent to six people a day and should legitimately charge at least $15/hour for the convenience yielding revenue of $90/day or $32,850/year.
Certainly, these numbers are for 365 days so calculate your use appropriately. Check around your area and see what other clubs are charging. Resorts charge $50 and more per hour. The days of the ball machine being used by the same three members a couple times a week for $5.00 are over. If the Pro staff is engaged in promoting ball machine use, teach on it themselves, and place it in a proper high visibility area it could be just as lucrative as lessons, and members will be standing in line to use it.
THE PICKUPWALL COMPONENTS
The PickupWall is a patented, unique, one of a kind automated system that returns balls back to the ball machine for continuous play. Each component of The PickupWall has been chosen for its function, durability and attractiveness. These components have been aligned in the system for maximum performance and years of trouble free use. Once the manufactured and fabricated pieces arrive to our facility they are hand assembled, tested and re-tested to achieve the standard of reliability that is a staple of The PickupWall.
Below is a description of the main components of The PickupWall.
Lifter – Powered by a standard electrical outlet, the lifter elevates balls from track level to the lifter upper opening guiding balls into the Return Chute and back to the ball machine. Available in 7 beautiful matte finished colors to match your court, fence and surroundings, The PickupWall Gen II achieves whisper quiet operation inaudible from the near baseline that is necessary for indoor courts and welcomed for outdoor use.
Exterior – Constructed of ½” high density polyethylene HDP that is durable, colorfast and able to withstand the harshest outdoor environments, the material will not fad, warp, rot, or delaminate when exposed to heat or moisture. Precision CNC machines place material and drill holes in the lifter shell to accept rods, bearing and screws. This computer guided process insures accuracy and consistency for each unit.
Interior – Composed of the motor, chain, lifter fingers, sealed bearings and 41 synchronized parts all designed with one collective task of consistent ball entry from the track opening, lifting balls in the water proof shell and exiting to the Chute Return. The stainless steel/plastic chain resists rusts and provides a maintenance free environment.
Chute Return – Returns balls from the lifter to the ball machine.
Constructed of powder coated aluminum bar, high density fiberglass rod, lifter color HDP, coordinated brackets and 1 centrally placed support stand, the Chute Return is secured by thumb screws on the lifter, recessed brackets on the support stand and the universal ball machine mount bracket affixed to the ball machine.
Catch Net – Absorbs balls, directing them to the track for return to the lifter. The net, tensioned by springs at the top, carabiners on the sides and track weight and position at ground level solve the equation for proper net tension.
The net body is custom cut black 10 – ounce vinyl coated mesh with angled side curtains (for California courts) with unobtrusive black grommets. The Topspin Flap at the top of the net prevents heavy topspin balls from travelling over the net directing them to the track. All ancillary components of the net are black by design to blend in with the environment. These components include custom powder coated stainless steel top springs made exclusively for The PickupWall containing a specific number of coils that provide proper net tension, top and side powder coated carabiners, and Topspin flap supports of threaded rod and decorative front acorn nuts.
Auger Helix – Moves balls along the track to the lifter.
A custom ¼” pultruded coiled fiberglass rod wrapped with 5/16″ memory rope at 3″ pitch directed by a 3D printer generated guide retains its shape and integrity for effortless ball movement. The auger is powered by the same reliable motor that powers the lifter and is capable of moving a full track of 160 balls on a California court and 240 balls on a Standard court with ease.
Ball Track – The Ball Track accepts and secures the net in a back channel and houses the Auger Helix.
Constructed from extruded RPVC plastic, the ball track connects with 5/8″ dowel rod in the back and custom vinyl joiners in the front secured with stainless steel screws.

CUSTOMER SERVICE & PROGRAMMING
Tennis clubs are in the customer service business. Members who enjoy their daily club experience will return more often, recommend the club to others and grow the club. Satisfied customers play more, take more lessons, support you and the club in the Pro Shop and use the ball machine more. The PickupWall can be used in target contests, Beat the Machine and Hit Til You Drop competitions and anything your imagination can invent. Do you have elderly players at your club? Do they use the ball machine? Probably not. But they would if they didn’t have to pick up all those balls. They could make it part of their social routine if they invited a friend to hit on the ball machine accomplishing a cardio work out and visiting in the same hour.
PROFESSIONAL TEACHING TOOL
Feeding from the net to work on technique is great, as are live ball strategy clinics, but when was the last time you as a Pro stood behind your student to instruct? The benefit of the close teaching technique for footwork, technique and recovery and timing is another tool in your instruction bag that students will appreciate. You get to see the student from a different perspective and can even jump in to hit so you may visually instruct proper form. The psychological effect of close teaching will connect immediately with some students.
Junior Academies and clinics may train for endurance and fitness under the watchful eye of the Pro. Do you run a cardio class at your club? The PickupWall can keep up with any number of students returning balls to a second cart for you to swap out when yours is empty. Talk about a continuous cardio workout! How often do players complain about their serve but don’t get out on the court with a basket of balls to practice? They don’t hit serves because it is boring and they have to pick up the balls.
With The PickupWall, members may practice while balls are picked up for them and make it fun by inviting other players and team mates. Junior Academies and clinics love team building work outs with The PickupWall. Hitting contests for accuracy are great attractions. It may be a sensitive subject to note here but if you are a Pro who looks forward to the rest between baskets and retrieving balls yourself, think of the student benefits with continuous play and other ways to use your new found extra time.
